Welcome Stewart Swanson!!! We would like to announce that Stewart Swanson has taken over the position of BMP Implementation Team Leader working out of the Tropical Research and Education Center. Stewart will have the responsibility for educating vegetable growers in Homestead and Immokalee about the voluntary BMP program and assisting them with on farm assessments, evaluations, and filing of Notice of Intent to adopt the program. He will also work in Homestead with the container nursery industry in their efforts to implement BMP’s. Stewart received his B.S. and M.S. degrees in Agriculture from the University of Tennessee with a major in Plant and Soil Science. Before moving to Florida in 1985 he managed a landscape and nursery business, a vegetable and small fruit pick-your-own farm and a cow/calf operation. Except for a two year “working vacation” when Stewart was the Agronomist for the island of Bermuda, he has spent the last twenty two years working in agriculture in the South Florida area. First in Belle Glade as the Head of Research and Development for South Bay Growers and later as Academic Research Coordinator for the Everglades Research and Education Center. Stewart was also the Commercial Vegetable Crops Extension Agent in Immokalee for six years and he served as the Director of Research and Development at Brooks Tropical's here in Homestead.
